  2. Open the shortlisted candidates (merit list) section for GDS Schedule-II, July 2026.
  3. Select your postal circle (state).
  4. Download the merit list PDF.
  5. Press Ctrl+F and search for your registration number or name.
  6. Check the post name, division and percentage of marks shown against your entry, then save the PDF.

Make sure you open the Schedule-II, July 2026 list and not the older January 2026 list, since both may be visible on the portal.

Details Mentioned in the Merit List PDF

  • Registration number and candidate name
  • Post name and division / unit office
  • Community (category)
  • Percentage of marks (Class 10)
  • Document verification instructions and deadline

Verify every detail carefully against your application. If the post name, division or marks look wrong, contact the divisional office named in the list instead of relying on third-party posts.

GDS 2026: Posts and Vacancy Details

The 23,757 vacancies are spread across three post categories. The Branch Postmaster manages the branch post office, the Assistant Branch Postmaster supports branch operations, and Dak Sevaks handle mail delivery and office duties. Division-wise vacancy positions with Post IDs are published on the official portal.

GDS engagement carries a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) of roughly ₹10,000 to ₹29,380 per month, depending on the post — it is an allowance-based engagement, not a regular pay-scale post.

Eligibility Criteria (as per official notification)

  • Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) pass from a recognised board, with passing marks in Mathematics and English.
  • Must have studied the local language of the applied postal circle up to at least Class 10.
  • Age between 18 and 40 years, with relaxation for reserved categories as per government rules.
  • Basic computer knowledge and the ability to ride a bicycle are also required.

Application Fee

The application fee was ₹100 for applicable candidates. Women candidates, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and transgender candidates were exempted from paying the fee.

GDS Selection Process 2026

There is no written examination and no interview for GDS. The merit list is system-generated from Class 10 marks, with the percentage calculated to four decimal places. If two candidates tie on marks, the older candidate ranks higher, followed by the notified category and gender priority order.

Shortlisting in the merit list does not complete the process. Shortlisted candidates must pass physical document verification at their divisional office before provisional engagement.

Documents Required for Verification

  • Class 10 marksheet
  • Valid photo ID proof
  • Proof of date of birth
  • Medical certificate
  • EWS certificate, if applicable

Carry the original documents along with two sets of photocopies of all certificates. The Department of Posts has also advised candidates to rely only on communications from official email addresses ending in @indiapost.gov.in or @indiapostgdsonline.gov.in, and to stay alert to fraudulent messages asking for money or personal information.

What If Your Name Is Not in the 1st Merit List?

Do not lose hope. More merit lists can follow if vacancies remain — in the 2023 Schedule-II cycle, for example, four lists were released. No date has been announced yet for the second list of the 2026 cycle, so keep checking the official portal regularly.
